Roles & Permissions

Holy uses roles to determine what each user can see and do within your church.

Default Roles

RoleDescription
AdminFull access to all features and settings
StaffAccess to people, groups, events, and attendance
LeaderAccess to assigned groups and their members
MemberSelf-service access (profile, giving, groups)

Viewing Permissions

Go to Settings > Roles & Permissions to see the permission matrix for each role. Permissions are organized by module — People, Groups, Giving, Events, Attendance, Settings, Users, and Reports.

Custom Roles

Admins can create custom roles:

  1. Go to Settings > Roles & Permissions
  2. Click Create Role
  3. Name the role and select the permissions you want to grant
  4. Save

Custom roles can be assigned to users just like default roles.

Assigning Roles

Roles are assigned per-user under Settings > Users > [User] > Role.

A user can have only one role per church. Multi-campus users can have different roles per campus if campus-scoping is enabled.
